Monastery of Sant Joan de los Reis in Spain, Toledo resort
Rating: 7,9/10 (2212 votes)  This Franciscan monastery is located northwest of Hoderia. It was founded in 1476 after the Portuguese were defeated at Toro. It was supposed to serve as a burial place for Catholic monarchs and their successors, but it was not completed in time. The entrance to the church, which is part of the monastery and was founded in 1553, was designed by the architect Covarrubias. On the church walls, you can see the chains of Christians who were freed from Moorish captivity. Distinctive features of the monastery interior – these are friezes with the coats of arms of Catholic monarchs and eagles, an altar, and galleries above the choirs.
