The monument was designed by Johann Heinrich Strack, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The sculpture crowning the column was created by the most significant German sculptor Friedrich Drake.

The column was built under William I as a sign of Prussian victories in different wars: the Danish War of 1864, the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, Franco-Prussian War of 1870 - 1871. The battle scenes are depicted on the bronze reliefs of the granite base of the column. At the top of the monument is the goddess Victoria, whose robes are cast in gold.

The Triumphal Column was moved from the Royal Square to the Big Star Square in 1939. Its height is 66.89 meters. At a height of 44 meters, there is an observation deck with a view of the city. You can climb to the platform using the stairs inside the column. Inside the column, but below, there is a small history museum and gift shop.
