Champs Elysees – it is the largest Parisian highway running along the historical axis. The name goes back to the ancient Greek myth of a magical land, where heroes who deserve honor from the gods fall after death.

The history of this part of the 8th arrondissement of Paris goes back to the reign of Marie de Medici. By her personal order in 1616, the Queen's Boulevard was founded here, which expanded 50 years later thanks to Louis XIV. The boulevard became a promenade of the royal court, smoothly turning into the Tuileries Garden.

By the reign of Louis XVI, the boulevard and garden were expanded to such extent that some areas became a favorite place for criminals. It was decided to build guards posts, the first of which appeared in 1677.

By the 18th century, the Champs Elysees began to take shape in the form that can be seen today. The first illuminated alleys appeared, sidewalks were paved. Mansions for the aristocracy began to be built.

Since 1815, troops led by Alexander I. The Cossack imperial troops, without hesitation, settled in bivouacs directly on the Fields, which ended in disaster. A number of old mansions were destroyed to the ground. And the work on the restoration of the survivors continued for more than one year.

Large-scale construction and improvement of the highway took place in the 1840s. By this time, the Arc de Triomphe and a number of other sights were completely completed. Baron Ossman personally oversaw the creation of garden areas on the Champs Elysees, which have practically not changed to this day.

Every year military and solemn parades are held here, timed to coincide with any memorable date, or to public holiday.

Today, with the exception of the wide carriageway, the Champs Elysees will be of interest to tourists in two of their conditional zones. The first zone is called park, the second – shop. All these zones are divided into five squares: the Elysian, the Ambassadors square, the Marigny square, the Georam square and the holidays square. Each of the squares has its own history of development and its own attractions. It is here that you can see the prestigious boutiques of world couturiers, as well as the most expensive restaurants in France.

The ideal time for walking along the Champs Elysees is considered to be late evening, when the lanterns come on and the sunset reflects the sun. the romantic atmosphere of old Paris, despite the cars passing by.
