The current basilica, built in the 11th century in the late Roman style, is a long church with columns. According to legend, the cathedral was built in a hurry, one might even say in a panic, since the End of the World was expected in 1000. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, along with other attractions of Venice, was included in the World Heritage List UNESCO.
