Rating: 8,0/10 (2012 votes)  The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the oldest cathedral in the Venetian lagoon. The cathedral was founded in 638. The current basilica, built in the 11th century in the late Roman style, is a long church with columns. According to legend, the cathedral was built in a hurry, one might even say in a panic, since the End of the World was expected in 1000. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, along with other attractions of Venice, was included in the World Heritage List UNESCO.
