Rating: 8,1/10 (703 votes)  The Cathedral of Verona is a Catholic cathedral, the seat of the See of the Bishop of Verona. The construction of the temple began in the early 12th century in the Romanesque style. The consecration of the temple took place in 1187. In the 15th century, the church was built on and expanded, as a result of which it acquired features of the late Gothic style. Only the entrance portal with a portico decorated with twisted columns resting on winged griffins has survived from its original appearance. The portal was created by the master Nicolo, who is also the author of the portal of the Church of San Zeno Maggiore. In the lunette above the portal you can see the relief image of the Virgin Mary. The portal is also decorated with sculptural images of Old Testament prophets, figures of the knights Olivier and Roland, and hunting scenes.
