Piazza Stesicoro is one of the main squares in historic Catania. It is located along the main street – Via Etnea. This square divides the street in almost half. It has the shape of a rectangle, with various buildings in different styles of architecture located in the perimeter. On the east side there is a monument to the composer Vincenzo Bellini, executed in 1882 by the sculptor Giulio Monteverde. In the northeast is Palazzo Beneventano, in the north is the luxurious Palazzo del Toscano,   which opens onto Corso Sicilia with one facade. In the south of the square there are less architecturally valuable buildings.

In the center of Piazza Stesicoro, on a lowland about ten meters relative to the street pavement, is the northern part of the ancient Roman amphitheater, which was excavated in the last century as a result of oblivion for many centuries. In the western part of the square, in an elevated area, is the Church of San Biagio, also known as Santa Agata alla Fornache. Also, attention is drawn to the most luxurious palace of the 18th century, Palazzo Tezzano, which houses the building of the tribunal until 1953.

Mid XX century – the time when all the buildings located behind the monument to Vincenzo Bellini were demolished and a street of our days was built in their place. Corso Sicilia, which has been built up with office buildings with banking and insurance companies. This street is directed towards Piazza della Repubblica, in the direction of the Central Station.

Today, Piazza Stesicoro is one of the most popular squares in Catania. This is facilitated by its central location and the fair, which is held from Monday to Saturday.
