This museum is the last of three famous art centers in Madrid. It is located in the galleries of the Palace of Villahermosa, built in 1771.

The collection of this museum includes more than 800 canvases that represent the history of the development of Western, including Spanish, art. The museum exhibits cover a variety of art styles, from 13th century Gothic to modern pop art that is characteristic of 20th century America. All the works of the museum's art fund were collected mainly in the period from 1920 to 1980.

In 2004 the museum expanded greatly, in its collection appeared paintings donated by Carmen Severa.

This museum is a very good addition to the Prado Museum. The masterpieces of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum are paintings such as: `` St. Carolina '' works by Caravaggio, The Man with the Clarinet Picasso, and also The Painting with Three Spots Kandinsky.
