The ruins of this temple – one of the main attractions of the city. Archaeologists did not immediately know that this is the Temple of Apollo,   thanks to a tablet found on the territory of the temple.

The temple was built in the 6th century BC. There used to be another temple in its place, but it was destroyed in the 7th century BC. Initially, the temple had 15 columns along the sides and 6   at each end. It is attributed to the archaic because of the large monolithic columns, the huge width and length of the temple, and also because of the wide prominent capitals.

Almost the entire building was destroyed, but the foundation is well preserved. This made it possible to restore the plan of the temple.

During the Archaic period, the temple was climbed by stairs from the south side of the hill. Later there was a change here, due to which they had to use the western entrance. The inner columns were removed, some were placed at the western end of the South Stoi. They have survived there to this day.
