Traditionally, it is believed that it was along this street that Jesus Christ passed to the place of his own execution. On Via Dolorosa, 9 of the 14 stops included in the Way of the Cross are marked. There are a number of historical sites here: the Catholic Convent of the Sisters of Zion, which includes two chapels of the Condemnation and the Scourging; the Church of the Flagellation; arch Ecce homo. The Way of the Cross begins from the school of Al-Omariya and continues to the Temple of the Holy Sepulcher.
