Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Bulgaria, Pomorie resort
Rating: 9,4/10 (6545 votes)  The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is one of the most ancient buildings in the city of Pomorie. The church is located next to an architectural reserve, at the very promontory of the peninsula. The construction of the church was carried out in 1763-1765 on the site of an old temple dating back to the 9th century, which was destroyed in 1760. The main building material was stone. The temple is a three-nave rectangular building, without internal vaults and external domes. The church was decorated with icons and carved plastic. The iconostasis of the temple was made of wood, various floralistic motives were used in it. The carving itself was performed at a high technical and artistic level. Today, on the iconostasis, you can observe 17 icons on the royal tier, the painting of which was carried out in the 17th century, some of the icons were also subsidized by the 16th century. On the apostolic tier there are 33 icons – festive, apostolic and hierarchical. Under the icon of Jesus Christ there is a small ayazmo with consecrated water. Christians nicknamed this source the `` Tears of Christ. '' In 1972, the temple was declared an original monument of fine arts, and in 1976 – a cultural monument of national importance.
