Every noble resident of the city in those ancient times considered it his duty to build a tower in Bologna. Historians claim that about 200 towers were previously built in the city. The most famous towers in the city – Garisenda, which is 48 meters high, and Asinelli, 98 meters high. According to legend, both towers were built by two rival aristocratic families. Both buildings were located opposite each other.
