The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, located in Marianske Lazne, is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The church is primarily famous for its 33 steps, symbolizing the years of Jesus' life.

The construction of the church was carried out in the neo-Byzantine style in 1844-1848. The main authors of the construction were I.G. Gutenson – architect from Munich, A. Turner – the builder from the Teplitsky monastery, and the architect I.O. Kranner.

The building was built in the shape of an octagon, its western part with the main entrance was completed by two bell towers, on which a clock was soon installed. Above the main entrance there is a rose window, created in the Gothic style by the architect Kranner.

The southern and northern pylons were completed with stone statues of angels made in 1847 by the Prague sculptor J. Max and his student J. Paris. In the northern part of the church, you can see sculptures made in the form of Saints Augustine and Norbert, symbolically turning to heaven, in the south – sculptures of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The sculptural decoration of the tympanum is also the work of J. Max, who often worked in tandem with Kranner.

When entering the church, the first thing that catches your eye is the star-studded `` firmament ''. The vault dominating the interior space rests on eight pylons, the columns between them, made of red marble, carry a circular gallery, which serves as a tribune for separately praying citizens. The gallery is covered by the main altar, and under it are the side altars. The entire interior of the church is richly decorated with stucco, gilding and colored arabesques.

The entrance is decorated with stone angels, and the main altar is decorated with images of saints, which are also works of Max. The stone pulpit, the main altar and the marble pillars were designed by the architect G. Bergman, with the help of Kranner.
