It was built in the 14th century on the site of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The very first building was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1571. After that, it was rebuilt. A Renaissance portico appeared on the southern facade, and a Gothic arcade was added. In the 19th century, a tower and a neo-Gothic facade were added to the cathedral.
