This statue depicts a seated Buddha with a belly in sight, bare chest and a smile on his face. The statue is located near the city of Leshan.

This statue is the tallest Buddha statue in the world. For millennia, she was also the tallest sculpture on Earth. In December 1996, UNESCO included it in the World Heritage List.

The statue was created for 90 years, since 713. The Leshan statue is mentioned in historical records, songs, and poems. The Buddha's face is turned towards the sacred Mount Emeishan, and his legs rest against the river.

The statue is 71 meters high, the head is 15 meters high, and the shoulder span is almost 30 meters. The statue's fingers are 8 meters long and the nose is 5.5 meters long.

The charm of this statue lies not so much in its size, how much in artistic performance. 1021 The coiled tuft of hair has been so skillfully embedded in the head that it all looks like one piece together.

The drainage system plays an important role in protecting the statue. Hidden channels and gutters are scattered throughout the statue so that rainwater does not penetrate into the Buddha.

The Buddha's large ears (each about 7 meters high) are carved from wood. They were very skillfully inserted into the stone head of the statue.

The renovation of the Buddha statue worries not only the Chinese government, but also the governments of other foreign countries. In 1963, China began renovation work to restore the statue, as it was nearly destroyed by the rain and wind.
