Hala Sultan Tekke is located on the shore of a salt lake. The structure is surrounded by cypresses, date palms, eucalyptus trees, which gives the impression of being in an oriental fairy tale.
There is a legend that Umm Haram is the wife of one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad. This woman was famous and rich. According to legend, when the Prophet Muhammad (the founder of Islam) spent the night in the house of Umm Haram, he had a message from Allah in a dream. In 649, a woman took part in a war aimed at spreading Islam among non-believers. During the battle on the coast of Cyprus, her mule stumbled on a stone, the woman could not resist, fell out of the saddle and broke her neck, and immediately died. She is buried at this place.
A mosque was erected at the site of the death of Umm Haram after many centuries of the ball. Now it is a whole complex consisting of the mosque itself, the mausoleum, the minaret, residential buildings for pilgrims and employees, as well as a beautiful garden with a fountain.
The Sultan Tekke robe is considered one of several Muslim shrines in the world, which erected in honor of a woman. Also, the mosque ranks fourth in importance for Muslim shrines, and the main island for Muslims.
After 1974, when the Turks invaded Cyprus, the mosque began to function partially. Divine services are held only on the most important Muslim holidays (Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Adha). Anyone can visit the mosque, it is open every day.
