Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes)  Dome of the Chain – one of the most ancient architectural structures located on the Temple Mount. It is next to the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque. The spacious graceful Dome of the Chain is decorated with eleven marble columns and a hexagonal base. In the southern part, there is a niche for prayer – mihrab. According to the most widespread version, this structure was built during the period from 685 to 705 AD, during the reign of Caliph Abd al-Malik. The purpose of the Dome of the Chain has not yet been finally established. According to one point of view, it was built so that the builders of the Dome of the Rock could wait out the bad weather there. Another point of view is that the Dome of the Chain is an architectural sketch of the future Dome of the Rock.
