Today, about 50 species of various animals mentioned in the Bible live on the territory of the reserve. By the middle of the 20th century, most of the animals living in this area were on the verge of extinction, or were completely exterminated. To save the remaining animals and restore the fauna of biblical times, Israeli general Abraham Yoffe first created the Natural Resources Administration, and then several reserves appeared in the country. Hai Bar, founded in 1968, became a haven for representatives of surviving species ... In 1973, Somali wild donkeys appeared in the reserve, which were caught in the Danakil Desert, and brought to Hai Bar along with Eritrean ostriches.
