The medieval church of St. Panteleimon is located at the foot of the Vitosha mountains in the village of Boyana, just 8 kilometers from the capital of Bulgaria - Sofia. Since 1979, the church has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In the 10th century, a small church was erected here, which was dedicated to St. Panteleimon and Nicholas the Wonderworker. In the 13th century, by order of the sevastocrator Kaloyan, a new two-story church decorated with frescoes was added to the old church.

In the 19th century, the church ensemble was completed with another building. Today the temple has three chapels, which arose from the outbuildings. The eastern part of the church is a one-domed church, built in the 11th century, was made in the form of an equal-pointed cross with a semicircular asp. The central part is the"Kaloyanov Church" - a two-storey building of the 13th century, on the first floor of which there is a chapel and a crypt, and on the second floor there is a church. In the western part there is a vestibule, built in the 19th century.

The walls of the temple are decorated with 89 compositions and 240 individual figures. Also in our time, frescoes of the XI-XVI centuries are kept in the church. The fresco cycle of the temple is one of the most valuable collections of medieval Bulgarian murals.
