This bridge was completed in 1968. It is the third bridge across the Yangtze, after the Chongqing and Wuhan bridges.

The construction of the bridge took 8 years. This 6 km long structure was the first bridge across the river built by the Chinese themselves, without the help of foreigners. The bridge consists of two tiers. Top – it is a motorway lined with 2 meters wide pedestrian walkways. The length of the track is 4589 meters. The lower tier – it is a railway, the length of which is – 6,6772 meters, and width – 14 meters.

The highest of the pillars on which the bridge rests reaches 85 meters in height, and its area at the base is – 400 square meters. More than 300 lanterns illuminate the bridge at night. On both sides of the bridge there are two towers, the height of each of them is – 70 meters.

The bridge looks especially impressive at night, when it is illuminated by 540 halogen lamps and 1024 floodlights. The structure is reflected in the river and looks very impressive. It is called the 'luminous pearl' city.

Previously, all trains were ferried across the river, and this took a very long time. However, once the bridge is built, it only takes a few minutes to cross the river.
