Rating: 9,6/10 (5968 votes)  The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is the oldest building in the Santo Stefano complex. The temple is an octagonal building with 12 columns, five of which are made of bricks, the rest of marble. In the central part of the temple is the Aedikole of St. Petronius. The relics of the saint were transferred in 2000 to the Cathedral of St. Petronius, where only his head was previously located. Particularly revered sites of the cathedral - – the source, traditionally associated with the waters of the Jordan, and the black marble column, symbolizing the column on which Jesus was scourged. In the 12th century, the walls and vault of the temple were painted with frescoes, fragments of which are now kept in the Basilica Museum.
