According to one version, the city was named after a fortress located on the territory of Burgas. According to many modern historians and scientists, the Pyrgos fortress was built during the Middle Ages. The fact that Pyrgos played one of the important roles in the development of the city is beyond doubt, the only thing is that the dates of its construction and destruction are still unknown. However, scientists believe that the fortress was destroyed during the rule of the Turks.
