Koleda is the name of the Christmas holiday that takes place in Bulgaria from December 24 to 25. On Christmas Day, the whole family gathers at the table. The oldest man in the family must light the fire. To do this, an oak or pear log is thrown into the oven, which should burn all night. If the log burns with big sparks and fire, then the next year will be successful for the whole family.

It is customary to serve an odd number of lean dishes - 7, 9 or 11. Boiled beans, pickled vegetables, nuts, pumpkin, honey, homemade bread, fresh fruit, banitsu and compote.
