The Queen Victoria Market, also known as the Vic Market, is located in downtown Melbourne. This is the largest outdoor market in the southern hemisphere, built in the 19th century and still operating today. Once upon a time, there were two more markets located next to it - East and West, but both were closed in the 1960s.

In the middle of the 19th century, a cemetery was located on the site of most of the market, and today, during various works, human remains are still found. The memory of the people buried here is perpetuated by a memorial plaque on the corner of Queen and Terry Streets.

Market area - about 7 hectares. Melbourne residents themselves consider it to be an example of the unique style of their hometown, as evidenced by the fact that the market is listed as a Victorian heritage.

Tourists from all over the world also do not bypass the market - on its counters you can find anything a traveler's heart desires: from souvenirs, copies of aboriginal culture items to jewelry, clothes and shoes. Here you can always buy fresh vegetables and fruits, fish, meat, dozens of types of pastries or delicious delicacies of Australian and world cuisine.

In 2003, 1328 solar panels were installed on the roofs of the market, covering an area of 2000 sq. meters and generating 252 thousand kW / h of electricity. It is the largest renewable energy complex in Melbourne.
