Photo & Description

Cape Hillsborough National Park is a small (only 816 hectares) coastal park 40 minutes from McKay, where the rain forest literally meets the reef. The waters surrounding the park are part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine National Park.

In the park you can see about 150 species of birds and 25 species of butterflies. Among the animals in the park are the ubiquitous kangaroos, dwarf flying squirrel, turtles and wallabies. The friendly wallabies that appear on the beach every morning at dawn are a favorite subject for photography.

Cape Hillsborough itself was once inhabited by aborigines of the Juipera tribe, and today, following a special 1, 2 km, you can get to know their way of life and traditions.

The highlight of the park is its rugged coastline, formed by volcanic activity in ancient times. Traces of those geological changes are still visible today - in steep cliffs, coastal caves and secluded coves.
