Photo and description

The Cape Ganteum Reserve, covering an area of 24 thousand hectares, impresses with its natural views. The reserve itself consists of two separate territories - Murray Lagoon, 41 km from Kingscote, and Cape Linois, 61 km from Kangaroo Island's main city.

The plains of the reserve are covered with dunes, where here and there, you can find shrub eucalyptus and other coastal vegetation. Rocky cliffs alternate with stretches gently sloping down to the sea and form the reserve's unique landscape. Sandy beaches are hidden in sheltered coves.

The reserve is home to various bird species: gulls, terns, swans, herons, kinglets, rainbow birds. Sometimes you can find parrots.
Even though very little is known about the reptiles of the reserve, It should always be remembered that some species of poisonous snakes live on Kangaroo Island. For example, a tiger snake is usually found in swampy areas, but hides when a person approaches, unless it senses a threat. Brush-tailed possums and tammar wallabies live in the central part of the reserve, and kangaroos are found in abundance at Cape Linois.
In the north of the reserve, Murray Lagoon is the largest freshwater lagoon on the island and is home to many birds. We also recommend reading: Rubenshuis House Description And Photos - Belgium: Antwerp

Part of the park is located on the eastern end of the D'Estr é es Bay - a place where whaling used to flourish, and where today you can retire to the beach. This is also the starting point for the 20 km long hiking trail to Cape Ganteum.
