Basilica of St. Istvan is named after the first king of Hungary, Istvan (Stephen). The construction of the cathedral began in 1848 under the direction of the architect Jozsef Hild. After his death, construction was supervised by Miklos Ibl. The construction was completed in 1905. Along with the parliament building, the basilica is the tallest building in the city.

The sculptures of the patron of the church, King Stephen, are placed above the gates leading from the vestibule and in the main altar (Alaios Strobl). The most valuable relic of the Hungarian Catholic Church, the mummified right hand of St. Stephen, is kept in the chapel of the Holy Right behind the apse.

To enjoy the amazing view, you can take an elevator to the left bell tower of the basilica.
