Photo and description

Just 50 km from Launceston is Ben Lomond National Park - a huge plateau on top of sheer cliffs that rise above the plains of northeastern Tasmania. The park received its name in honor of Mount Ben Lomond in Scotland. On the territory of the park with an area of 16.5 thousand hectares, there is the second highest peak of the island - Ledges Tor (1572 meters). The park was founded in 1947 as an important bird nesting site and is home to 10 of Tasmania's 13 endemic bird species.

Today Ben Lomond is Tasmania's premier ski resort with modern apartments and equipment. The relatively small number of visitors, picturesque views and the diverse wildlife of the park are undoubtedly its advantages. It is here that the grandiose rocks are located, for which Tasmania is so famous among climbers. In summer, the plateau is covered with a luxurious carpet of meadow flowers. Known as Jacob's Ladder, the steep bends and breathtaking views make the journey to the plateau an adventure in its own right.

The most common inhabitants of the park are wallabies and wombats, which can often be found in the ski village. Forest kangaroos live in the southwestern part of the park, and echidnas and platypuses live in the Upper Ford River.
