Photo and description

Seville is one of the largest centers in Spain, a city with a rich history, distinctive culture, interesting customs and traditions. It is in Seville that the oldest and one of the largest bullfighting arenas, the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, is located.

The construction of the arena began in 1849 and was completed only by 1881. Today, the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza arena can accommodate 14 thousand spectators. The building is predominantly in the Baroque style, the upper part of the spectator's box is covered with an arched gallery, on the west side of the arena is the Puerta del Principe - the Gate through which the usually jubilant crowd of spectators carried the matador in their arms. In 1914-1915, the spectator stands were reconstructed - they were rebuilt and made more flat.

Everyone can visit an excursion that takes place inside the arena and during which tells about the history of bullfighting in Seville, the traditions and rules of bullfighting, about the famous matadors. During the tour, visitors will see with their own eyes all the premises of the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza arena, because a special world is hidden behind its walls. Inside the arena there is a Museum, where posters, photographs, portraits, torero costumes are exhibited. The most interesting exhibit of the museum for many is the cloak painted by the outstanding Pablo Picasso. Also on the territory of the arena there is a temple where the participants of the bullfight pray before the fight. There are also operating rooms, and during the fighting, doctors and an ambulance are constantly on duty here. Also, as part of the tour, you can visit the premises for the bullfighter and the bull corral. Well, and, of course, most importantly, what visitors come here for is bullfighting, which takes place from April to October.
