Photo and description
Due to its rich history and culture, India has created a huge number of museums. One of the largest is the National Museum, located in the capital of the state - New Delhi.
The idea of creating this museum appeared during the exhibition "The Art of India", which was held at the Royal Academy of London, in 1947-1948 ... After its completion, it was decided to show this exposition in India, in the building of Raskhtrapati Bhavan - the residence of the President of India. The exhibition was a huge success, which prompted the creation of a full-fledged institution that would operate on a permanent basis. In 1949, the National Museum officially began its work. But only in 1960 a new building was built, which now houses the museum collection. Its two floors house over 200,000 works of art spanning 5,000 years of Indian history. Among the exhibits there are clay, wooden and metal sculptures, toys, jewelry, archaeological finds, weapons and uniforms, paintings, manuscripts, books. The most famous part of the collection is the relics knitted with the Buddha, which occupy a separate section. In addition to historical treasures, the museum also has things related to contemporary art.
On the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, under the tutelage of which the National Museum of Delhi is located, in 1989 the Institute of Art History and Museum Studies was established under it, in which lectures are held on the history of art, conservation and restoration of art objects and museum exhibits.
