Photo and description

The house-museum of A.S. Pushkin is one of the most famous sights of the city of Chisinau. This unique museum of its kind is located in the building where Alexander Pushkin lived in exile from 1820 to 1823. The opening of the Chisinau Museum took place on February 10, 1948.

It was here, in the outbuilding of the house of the wealthy merchant Naumov, that A.S. Pushkin during his stay in Bessarabia. This period in the poet's life was marked by the writing of the famous work "The Black Shawl", which was later translated into many languages and included in various musical works, the cycle of "Moldavian Songs", the message "Daughter of Karageorgia". The beauty of Moldova inspired the great poet to work on the poem, which later became known as "Prisoner of the Caucasus".

The decision to open the museum was made in 1946. Miraculously, the mansion that survived was carefully restored; the renovation lasted two years. Thirty years after the opening of the house-museum for his needs, two more ancient buildings of the 19th century were transferred, where the literary and historical halls were located.

Today the house-museum of A.S. Pushkin is a unique treasury, which preserved original testimonies from the life of the poet. The furnishings in the rooms are as close as possible to that which existed during their stay in Pushkin's house; here you can see more than two hundred exhibits. The museum is especially proud of the original books from the poet's library. The 19th century dueling pistol always attracts the attention of visitors - this is what Pushkin used to shoot in a duel. The museum also contains a facsimile edition of the poet's workbooks, published under the patronage of the Prince of Wales. In total, there are less than a thousand such publications in the world, and two of them were transferred to Moldova (the second copy is kept in the National Library).

Today, the museum, like many years ago, hospitably opens its doors to numerous visitors.
