Photo and description

The small coastal town of Karavostasi is the main harbor of Folegandros island and one of its three main settlements. This is a picturesque resort settlement with a typical architecture for the Cyclades - snow-white houses with doors and shutters, traditionally painted with blue paint, and narrow streets winding between them.

In recent years, the tourist infrastructure of the city has undergone significant changes for the better thanks to influx of tourists. Today in Karavostasi you will find a good selection of comfortable hotels and excellent apartments, as well as many cozy restaurants, taverns and cafes where you can enjoy excellent local cuisine. In addition to the city beach, it is worth visiting the magnificent Vardia beaches located in the vicinity of Karavostasi, Livadi (with camping) and Katergo.

Approximately 3-4 km from Karavostasi, on a rocky cliff, there is the island's capital, Chora (also known as Folegandros), where you should definitely visit its historical part - the medieval Venetian fortress of Castro. Just above Chora, on a hillside, there is one of the main attractions of the island - the Church of the Virgin. Climbing to the top of the hill, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the coast.

In summer, getting to the island is quite easy, as there is a regular ferry service from Karavostasi to the port of Piraeus and other islands of the Cyclades archipelago. If you decide to visit Folegandros in the off-season, you should take into account that the ferry only runs 2-3 times a week during this period. The local harbor is also home to numerous fishing boats, yachts and boats. Here you can rent a boat and visit the most secluded places of the island, including the famous Golden Cave of the island with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites.
