The name in English is Kirche St. Georg. Photo and descriptionSt. George's Church is different from other sights of Ulm, its history does not go back to the deep Middle Ages, but it is no less interesting. The construction of the garrison Catholic church lasted 2 years, it was completed in 1904 and since then the exterior and interior decoration of the building has hardly changed. The restorations carried out in 1977 and 1995 were limited to renovations and renovations. Since 1920, the Church of St. George has become a parish Catholic, in this capacity it still exists. The original project of the Freiburg architect Max Meckel combined features of the late Gothic style and his own unique ideas. Therefore, having reached us practically unchanged, the Church of St. George was recognized as a cultural monument of special significance. This imposing structure is a 38 meter high three-aisled basilica with a tiled roof. The dome of the unusual tower, located in the entire width of the nave of the building, is covered with copper and reaches a height of 68 meters. The interior decoration of the church, rich painting and sculptures were also made in the late Gothic style by the best masters of that time. The Catholic community of Ulm managed to preserve not only the church building itself, but also its unique organ, installed in the year of the consecration of the temple. Today only the image of stylized oaks in the ceiling painting, which are symbols of the "faith of the German people", reminds of the former garrison appointment.
