Literary and Theater Museum named after N.M. Dyakonov was established in 1989. The official date of its opening is June 23, 1989. The museum bears the name of the famous Komi actor, director, playwright, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, State Prize laureate, creator of the famous play "Wedding with a Dowry" - N.М. Dyakonov.

Nikolai Mikhailovich Dyakonov was born and realized his creative path in the Komi Republic. He comes from the Yarensky district of the Vologda province (now it is the Ust-Vymsky district of the Republic of Kazakhstan) in a family of peasants. He was a member of rural amateur performances, and in the early 1930s he played in the first traveling Komi theater. In 1932-1936 he studied at the 1st studio of the Leningrad College of Performing Arts in the Komi Republic. Since 1936 he became an artist of the drama theater. From the very beginning of his career on the professional stage, Nikolai Dyakonov showed himself to be a bright, distinctive actor and talented director.

Dyakonov's appeal to drama in the late 1930s significantly enriched the national repertoire. The pinnacle of the playwright's creativity is the lyrical comedy "Wedding with a Dowry", which gained wide popularity both in the USSR and internationally.

Every year Syktyvkar hosts events dedicated to famous figures of the theater of the Komi Republic, various thematic exhibitions, quizzes, contests, interest clubs, theatrical events are organized.

The main profile and face of the museum are defined by its permanent expositions: "The history of the theaters of the Komi Republic" and "The life and work of N.М. Dyakonov ". The exposition of the first hall reveals the life and creative path of N.M. Dyakonov. The first hall of the museum is designed in a peculiar way: a model of the Dyakonovs' house, an art painting of the wall depicting the nature of the north; photos with a view of the village of Seyta, where Maria Stepanovna Dyakonova was born (here the Dyakonov family spent their free time), Ezhva, where Nikolai Mikhailovich spent the last twenty years of his life, the city of Syktyvkar, where N.M. Dyakonov took place as an artist. The exposition of the second hall acquaints visitors with the history of the republic's theaters: the Academic Drama Theater named after V.A. Savin from the time of its foundation until the end of the 20th century, the National Music and Drama Theater of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The third hall of the museum hosts exhibitions of various topics: significant events, anniversaries, cultural phenomena, etc.

For temporary exhibitions, the museum uses more than 15% of the materials from its collections. Exhibitions of arts and crafts by local craftsmen and craftsmen from other regions are very popular; ethnographic exhibitions.

In the hall of the museum there is a permanent ethnographic exposition - the interior of the hut of the Komi peoples. The household items of peasants and household utensils presented here tell about the life of the Komi people in the late 19th - early 20th centuries.

The museum has a memorial workshop for the birch bark master, famous throughout the country - M.S. Kocheva. The workshop was opened on March 13, 2002 as a tribute to the memory of a talented master and teacher who passed away in the prime of his work.

Everything in Kochev's memorial workshop remained as it was during his lifetime. On the shelves there is a collection of old boxes, tues, caskets, products from root, wood, burl; as well as gifts from his friends, work of students. On the master's desktop - unfinished work, birch bark, tools. The feeling that the master will return in a minute, and a miracle will be born in his hands.
