Photo and description

Piazza Sant Just in the Gothic Quarter is a place where the spirit of old Barcelona has been preserved, a place where time seemed to have practically stopped. This square is located on the remains of a cemetery. There is a beautiful fountain in the Gothic style, a medieval private palace built in the 13th century, and the church of Santos Just y Pastor. The church of Santos Just y Pastor is believed to be the oldest in Barcelona. There is evidence that it was built in the 9th century under the king of the Franks Louis the Pious. Between 1342 and 1574, the church was rebuilt, building on the foundations of an old Romanesque building new facades and a bell tower in the Gothic style, the authors of which were Pere Blai, Joan Safon and Joan Granja, and most of which have survived to this day. In the 19th century, between 1880 and 1887, the facades were restored in a neo-Gothic style.

The interior of the church creates a sense of grandeur and awe. The chapels located on each side between the pillars are decorated with relief images. In one of the chapels - Saint Felix, there is an altar decorated with images of images of saints, made by the Portuguese artist Pedro Nunez. In addition, there are two original sprinklers in the form of Gothic capitals. The neo-Gothic main altar, surrounded by columns, was created on the site of the old one in 1832. The facades attract attention with remarkably preserved stained glass windows.
