Cape Chirakman description and photos - Bulgaria: Kavarna. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionCape Chirakman is located on the Black Sea coast, three kilometers south of Kavarna - a small town with a population of about 12 thousand inhabitants. Scientists still do not have a consensus about the history of the origin of the name of the cape, but many are inclined to the version that "chirakaman" means "light", "torch". Perhaps this is due to the fact that the cape has long served as a reference point for sea vessels. The history of Cape Chirakman is very interesting: the first settlers settled here in the 5th century BC. e. Due to the strong earthquake, many buildings were destroyed, but, nevertheless, some have survived to this day. Tourists can admire the ruins of temples, fortress walls and other historical buildings. In the seventies of the last century, a group led by Vasil Vasilev established that at the very edge of the cape there was a church dating back to the period of early Christianity. At 500 m from the cape, archaeologists discovered a large necropolis built in the XIV-XVII centuries. Archaeological excavations have been repeatedly carried out on Chirakman. Items found: gold and bronze jewelry, amphorae and vessels, weapons, various coins - are now kept in the Kavarna Historical Museum. The abundance of discovered riches testifies to the fact that in ancient times there was an active trade with neighboring cities and countries. In 1902, local residents found a treasure on the cape. Gold jewelry and statuettes were also transferred to the museum in Kavarna. At the foot of Chirakman there are caves in which archaeologists have discovered traces of the life of people of the Neolithic era (7-3 thousand years BC).
