Photo and description

The Lohner mountain range, also called the Gross Lohner, is located in the Swiss canton of Bern and consists of several peaks located in a ridge from northeast to southwest: Nyunichorn (2717 m. above sea level); Hinder Lohner (2929 m. Above sea level); Mittler Lohner (3002 m. Above sea level); Forder Lohner, southwest peak (3048 m. Above sea level); Mittaghorn (2678 m. Above sea level).

The Lonera massif is located east of Adelboden in the Engstligen valley and southwest of Kandersteg in the Kandertal valley. On the north side, Lohner directly borders the Klein Lohner and Bunderspitz mountains, separated from them by the Bunderrind crossing.

The first climber to conquer Lohner in July 1876 was K. Durheim from Bern. In August of the same year, 4 members of the mountaineering club, who also climbed Lohner, unexpectedly found a bottle with the names of mountain guides from Kandersteg - Ogi and Harry, dated 1875, at the top.

Approximately in the middle of the slope there is a hut built into the rocky wall, which can be reached even by those who have no experience of mountain climbing.

The slopes of Lonera are literally strewn with stones, which greatly complicates the ascent, and tourists can get to the top only along three ridges. From the Lonera hut, you can climb Mittler Lohner along a steep cliff with the help of special equipment, but this path is accessible only for real mountaineering professionals. And the most courageous of them can try their luck on an even more difficult route from Lonera hut through Mittaghorn along the western ridge to the main summit.
