The temple is located on a steep picturesque hill overlooking the capital of the island, Potia, with stunning panoramic views and breathtaking landscapes from the top. The Monastery of Saint Sava has a special meaning for the inhabitants of Kalymnos. The saint himself is revered by the locals as the patron saint of the island. The preacher, icon painter and miracle worker Saint Sava (also known as Saint Sava of New Kalymnos) spent 20 years on the island of Kalymnos (until his death) as a priest and spiritual mentor of the nuns of the monastery of All Saints. which was later renamed in honor of the saint into the monastery of St. decoration, several churches and chapels, an impressive bell tower, monastic cells, outbuildings, etc. It has survived to this day and is open today for visiting the cell where Saint Sava lived his last days. The monastery also has its own library, an entertaining pinakothek, a small but very interesting church museum, as well as a conference room.
