Photo and description

The Carthusian Monastery of St. Martin, located on Vomero Hill, is famous not only for its artistic treasures, but also for its magnificent observation deck overlooking the Gulf of Naples. The construction of the monastery was begun in 1325 at the behest of Charles, Duke of Calabria, and completed in 1368 under John I of Anjou. This building is typical of the Neapolitan Baroque. The one-nave interior of the cathedral impresses with its luxurious marble decoration and an abundance of artworks. Here you can see all kinds of traditional Neapolitan Christmas figurines - presepi. In addition, you can see the collection of pottery, paintings by Neapolitan painters and relics of the Kingdom of Naples.
