Photo and description

The Museum of Modern Art is located in close proximity to another large similar museum - Karl Henning Pedersen and Elsa Alfelt. Both of these structures are located outside the city of Herning, about two to three kilometers east of its historic center.

Initially, this museum was simply called the Museum of Fine Arts. It was founded in 1976 and was first located in an old building that used to belong to a textile factory. However, in 2009, the museum moved to a more modern building designed by the famous American architect Stephen Hall. It is a light, low rise building with large windows on the ground floor. A small artificial pond was built near the museum.

Now the Museum of Modern Art hosts several interesting exhibitions. Much attention is paid to Karl Henning Pedersen, a sculptor, graphic artist and architect who has gained worldwide fame for his monumental paintings, stained glass windows and ceramics. Other notable painters include surrealist expressionist Richard Mortensen and the founder of abstract expressionism, Asger Jorn. In 2009, the museum also acquired a collection of sculptures by Ingvar Kronhammar, who in his works combines two incompatible concepts - primitive art and technologies of the future.

A separate exhibition is devoted to the history of the textile industry in Herning, which also displays various types of fabrics and vintage clothing. It is worth noting, that from the old factory there were also decorations and decoration of premises, made in 1950 by Paul Gadegaard, who became popular throughout Denmark precisely after working at a textile factory in Herning.

The Herning Museum of Contemporary Art is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily, except Mondays. The museum building also houses a library, a concert hall and a lecture hall.
