The Crimean Ethnographic Museum was reopened in 1993, when the return of the deported peoples to Crimea began. However, its history began long before the nineties of the last century. So, in 1923, the department of ethnography was opened at the Central Museum of Taurida.

Crimea has long been considered a multi-ethnic territory, a large number of different nationalities lived here. The study of the everyday, cultural and historical heritage of the Crimea was also taken up by the museum staff. At the end of the 20th century, large-scale research work was carried out, during which the museum's collections were replenished with household items and folk art of the Tatars, Eastern Slavs, Karaites and other nationalities. Today the exposition of the museum has more than four thousand exhibits. It is worth noting, that most (about 80%) of the exhibits were donated to the museum by local residents.

The Crimean Ethnographic Museum is considered one of the most complete collections of information on the culture and history of 13 ethnic groups and ethnic groups of the peninsula. In addition, various exhibitions are constantly held by the staff, both on the territory of the museum and outside it. One of the most impressive and famous is the exhibition "Mosaic of Crimean Cultures", which provides an opportunity to get acquainted with cultural traditions, customs, rituals and holidays, traditional clothes of the peoples of Crimea. It consists of over 700 exhibits.
