Photo and descriptionThe Entomological Museum in Herzer Palace is one of the attractions of Varazdin, which is simply impossible to ignore. The palace building itself was built in 1791 in the neoclassical style. The family coat of arms of a noble family is carved on the stone portal. The Herzers became famous for the fact that in the 18th century they opened a successful postal business. Thanks to this, the family became one of the richest and could afford to buy a title of nobility. Today, the palace houses a unique entomological collection of Professor Franchisz Kozhech, which is a permanent exhibition called "The World of Insects". Redesigned and expanded in the late 1920s, this exhibition is considered one of the best of its kind in all of Europe. This fact was also recognized not only by experts, but also interested visitors. Guests of the exhibition will have to go through several thematic halls: "In the forest", "In the forest and in the meadow", "In the water and on the beach", "At night" and "In the country ... In total, the collection consists of 4,500 items. In addition to the prepared exhibits, the exhibition contains photographs, herbariums, several times enlarged species of insects and other items from the personal collection of Professor Kozhech. In addition, the collection also includes unique devices and tools developed by the professor for studying insects.
