Bad Gams until December 31, 2014 was an independent trade fair village in Styria, Deutschlandsberg. On January 1, 2015, Bad Gams was merged with the neighboring towns of Freeland, Kloster, Trachutten, Osterwitz and the city of Deutschlandsberg. From now on, all these villages are districts of Deutschlandsberg.

Bad Gams is located among the hills of Western Styria in a very beautiful, picturesque area, suitable for hiking. Near the town you can find a large artificial lake, which is adjoined by meadows and fields with numerous fruit trees. The mild climate contributes to large yields of chestnuts and pumpkins.

Bad Gams has become famous for the several mineral springs with a high iron content found on its territory. Water from the springs of Bad Gams is suitable for the treatment of diseases of the blood, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, strengthens the immune system.

Bad Gams was recognized as a thermal spa in 1982. The springs were discovered a little earlier - in the middle of the XX century.

Besides mineral springs, Bad Gams is famous for its vineyards. The wine is produced by about 12 winemakers living in Bad Gams and its surroundings.

Outside the town, there are several interesting places to visit while walking. These include the small chapel of Yoslannerl, whose outer walls are decorated with frescoes illustrating the Way of the Cross of Jesus Christ; a former stockyard building that has been converted into a dormitory for the local paper mill workers; ruins of the Deutschlandsberg castle, which is first mentioned in 1153. The castle now houses a museum that displays a selection of Celtic artifacts, antique bronze and silver jewelry, and a collection of weapons.
