Probably, the people who settled in these lands were attracted by the mineral springs discovered by the ancient Romans. In 1845, fountains from the Roman period were found in the town. Count Konstantin von Wickenburg rediscovered the healing properties of local springs to the general public. He turned to the doctor Anton Verle for confirmation of the healing qualities of the water and, having received it, began to build a new thermal spa. In a few years, fashionable villas, sanatoriums, hospitals were built here - that is, everything that which attracted the richest people in Austria and Europe. In the first half of the 19th century, the Franciscans appeared here, who built a church, and in 1888, and their own abbey. In 1837, the wife of Count von Wickenburg, Emma, contributed to the founding of the local Spa Park, which is more like a botanical garden. The most exotic plants were brought here, many of which have taken root and still delight the guests of the resort. For example, you should definitely see the old-timer sequoia, which was planted here in 1872. The prefix "Bad" to its name, which means a thermal resort, was given to the city in 1926. People with diseases of the spine and joints, lungs and nerves come here. When free from drinking healing water and carrying out various medical procedures, guests can visit the Dinosaur Park and Skansen located in the vicinity of Bad Gleichenberg, where a number of peasant buildings characteristic of Styrian villages are collected.
