The Saimaa Canal was first built in the Grand Duchy of Finland in 1845-1856 and paved the necessary navigable route from Lake Saimaa to the Gulf of Finland.

In 1968 after the reconstruction of the canal was reopened for local and international transport of industrial goods and goods. Its length is 57.3 km, and its capacity is 11.5 thousand different ships.

The Saimaa Canal Museum began its work in 1995. The exposition is based on all periods of the development of this transport artery of the country. Here are the models of the locks, the chief's office, the uniform of the workers, historical documents, photographs and ship models. In one of the rooms hangs a large map with marked routes through the Saimaa Canal.

Tourists are offered a boat excursion to the Myalki lock, during which they have the opportunity to get acquainted with the commemorative granite signs installed along the banks and immortalizing the names of the builders who made a huge contribution to the creation of the canal. In summer, ships also go to Vyborg and back.

There is a cafe at the service of the museum's visitors.
