St. Florian Church (Pfarrkirche hl. Florian) description and photos - Austria: Bad Loipersdorf. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Pfarrkirche hl. Florian. Photo and descriptionSt. Florian's Church is located in the historic center of the spa town of Bad Loipersdorf, famous for its largest thermal complex in all of Europe. However, it should be noted that the old town of Loipersdorf is located quite far from this resort center, about three kilometers. The first sacred building at this place appeared in the 15th century, but this chapel has not survived to this day, most likely due to its difficult fate. In the 16th century, the Reformation broke out in Europe, and Loipersdorf was for some time considered the center of Lutheranism. Only at the end of the 16th century, the Counter-Reformation began in the city, but at first the Catholic Church was able to return only tiny chapels on the outskirts of the city to its fold. Loipersdorf eventually converted back to Catholicism, but it took a century, if not more. In any case, the new parish church was built only in the middle of the 18th century. The construction of the new church, consecrated in honor of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, was completed in 1761. The church is made in the Baroque style and is a rather large, elongated structure, painted in a bright yellow-orange color. The architectural ensemble is complemented by a graceful bell tower. It is interesting that it was built at the same time as the entire church, but due to the threat of collapse, it, like part of the pitched roof, had to be completely redone in 1798-1801. The bell tower is decorated with a dial and crowned with a low red spire. The interior decoration of the church was made even before the completion of the construction work itself - it dates back to the 20s of the 18th century and is made mainly in the Baroque style. Especially worth noting is the monumental main altar dedicated to the patron saint of the temple - St. Florian. In 1975, the church underwent planned restoration work. Now the church of St. Florian is an architectural monument and is protected by the state.
