Photo and description

The Florian Gate, first mentioned in 1307, is dedicated to St. Florian, patron of Krakow. The entrance gate is located in a square tower of boulders, built at the beginning of the 14th century and crowned with a whimsical top of the 16th century. Inside the tower's lancet portal is a chapel with the image of the Virgin Mary. On its northern facade there is a heraldic eagle sculptured according to a drawing by Jan Matejka; on the south - a baroque relief depicting St. Florian, who was also revered as a defender from fires.
