Its fortified historical part, surrounded by walls built between the 13th and 16th centuries - Jugol, is sacred to Muslims. Harar-Jugol, said to be the fourth most religious city of Islam, has 82 mosques, three of which were founded in the 10th century, and 102 places of worship.
