Photo and description

The island of St. Nicholas got its name thanks to a medieval church located on its land, named after this saint. The appearance of the temple here dates back to the 16th century. In addition to the church and ancient graves located around it, there are no other buildings and inhabitants on the island - it is uninhabited. It is believed that plague crusaders are buried in the graves surrounding the medieval church.

The island of Sveti Nikola, as the locals call it, is recognized as the largest on the Adriatic coast: the length of the island is 2 km. It is only 1 km away from the city of Budva. At low tide you can get to the island on foot from Slavyansky beach along a shallow path, 0.5 m deep.

One of the legends says, that this path appeared thanks to Saint Sava. When he could not, due to a strong storm, get to the galley going to Athos, he threw several large stones into the sea and thanks to this he managed to get to the ship and climb on it.

The island's surface is densely covered with evergreen vegetation. Many species of birds and animals live here. The cozy sandy beaches of the island, due to their small size, are very popular among tourists seeking solitude and wanting to be at least a little alone with nature. Also from here you can enjoy stunning views of the city and its surroundings.

From Budva to the island and back, boats run regularly, delivering tourists to the desired place in just a few minutes. The island of St. Nicholas is very loved by the local population and is popular among visitors.
