Portugal for Toddlers Theme Park in Coimbra is located on the left bank of the Mondego River and is one of the most interesting and favorite places for recreation not only for children, but also for adults.

The park was opened on June 8, 1940, but the entire park was completed in the late 50s. The founder of the park is Professor Bissaya Barreto, the design of the park was carried out by the architect Cassiano Branco. Since 1959, the park has been owned by the Byssay Barrett Foundation.

The park is divided into three zones and tells about Portugal since colonial times. The first of the zones is for toddlers, and the other two are for older children. The first zone shows the little ones in miniatures the typical houses that were built in the cities and villages of Portugal. The second zone shows the most important historical monuments in Portugal. The third zone of the park tells about the former colonies of Portugal: Africa, Brazil, India, East Timor and Macau. You can learn about the life of people in these countries, their culture, traditions, and also visit the houses typical for these countries.

There are museums in the park. It will be interesting to visit the Museum of National Costume, opened in 1997. About 300 items from this museum will tell and show the evolution of the national costume of Portugal over the centuries. The Museum of the Marine Fleet was opened in 1998, among the exhibits - boats, ships, fishing and cargo ships, patrol and military ships, marine equipment. Also, children in a playful way will be able to trace the paths followed by the great Portuguese discoverers on the map, such as Vasco da Gama and others. The Furniture Museum was opened in 2000; here you can see various pieces of national furniture. Some of them are made of exotic trees and decorated with mosaics.
