Photo & Description

Flomsbana, or Flam Railway, is a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering and one of the most impressive and popular landmarks in Aurlandsfjord. It descends from a height of 865 m above sea level from Myrdal station to the picturesque Flam valley.

Flomsbana was opened in 1940. for the temporary movement of steam locomotives. Currently, it has acquired a new look - travel in green cars with a locomotive is accompanied by tourist information in several languages. During the twenty-kilometer journey along one of the steepest railways, tourists will find the most beautiful landscapes of Norway - rivers, cascades of waterfalls, deep gorges, snow-capped peaks and mountain farms.

Stopping at the picturesque Kyosfossen waterfall, which supplies Flomsbahn with electricity, you can take great pictures. The winding tunnels built in the mountain make it possible to level the elevation difference, as well as protect the road from avalanches and rockfalls.

The Flam railway crosses the river three times during the journey, which was launched through the tunnels under the railway line. At the foot of the mountains you can admire the beautiful scenery and splendor of the Arlandsfjord.
